Today’s Live Session 11AM

Today’s Live Zoom Subject: English

In today’s live lesson, you will be introduced to the book, ‘Mrs Armitage on Wheels’. We will look at different modes of transport and use expanded noun phrases in a game to identify them.

Early Bird Maths

We begin each day with ‘Early Bird Maths’. It is to support children in becoming more fluent with aspects of maths that we have learnt. Similar ideas are repeated so that children become familiar with the four basic calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division).

Please see below for answers to Friday’s Early Bird. Please self-mark your answers.

Whole Class Reading (WCR)

To practise our reading; becoming more fluent and increasing our understanding, we take part in WCR daily. Our objective this term is to retrieve information from a text and record it through writing. This is tricky stuff so there will be lots of opportunities to practise this. As well, there will be a daily challenge to come up with your own questions.

Have a go at the attached, read the text and answer the questions about this piece of text. Then, can you think of any other questions you could ask?

Maths

Follow the instructions below and complete the worksheet[s].

Before choosing a maths activity from the links below, think about how you feel about the topic. Are you feeling green, orange or red?

I am feeling red: This is okay! It just means you need some more practise. Have a go at the 1 star challenge. If you can do this and think you could try the 2 star then have a go at that, too!

I am feeling orange: This is okay! It just means you need a little more practise. Have a go at the 2 star challenge. If you can do this and think you could try the 3 star then have a go at that, too!

I am feeling green: Great! I’m glad you feel that you understand the topic. Have a go at the 3 star challenge!

Watch the video below entitled ”Recognise 2D and 3D shapes” via the below link. Listen to the narrator. He will ask you some questions, pause the video when asked and have a go yourself!

English

Check out todays live zoom lesson at 11AM.

L.O. To write questions using capital letters and question marks accurately.

Look at the front page of our book, ‘Mrs Armitage on Wheels’ below.

Can you write down five questions you have about the book. Use the ideas from the live lesson to help you.

You could use the question words in the image to help you.

Remember a capital letter at the start of each question and a full stop at the end.

Challenge: Could you join two questions using ‘and’?

Big Idea

LO: To design a toy car.

Quentin Blake wrote three books about Mrs Armitage.

As well as ‘Mrs Armitage on Wheels’, he wrote a book named, ‘Mrs Amitage – Queen of the Road’.

Follow the link below to watch the story being read.

Your task today is to draw and label a toy car that you could make.

Your labels should tell me the material that you would use for each part of the car.

The video below may give you some inspiration.

Think about:

  • What materials would you use?
  • Why would you choose these materials?

PSHE

Read through the file below.

Look at the pictures. Discuss with an adult what each child may have achieved.

Choose a challenge to do. Can you achieve it?

Discuss with an adult:

Something that you want to achieve and how you will achieve it.

Two things that you have achieved and how they made you feel.

Then, use the last page of the document to colour the jigsaw that explains how you feel about our learning.

Big Idea: R.E.

Each Friday evening, families around the world begin the celebration of Shabbat. For many, the evening includes favourite foods, company for dinner, special songs, and blessings. On Shabbat, families take a break and spend time together and with community. An erev Shabbat (Friday evening) ritual that is both simple and beautiful is to light candles to โ€œusher inโ€ the Sabbath and set it apart from the weekday world. Immediately after lighting candles, special blessings are said over the wine or grape juice, the challah, and in many families, over the children as well.

Follow the link below to learn more. Then you can choose from the related activities at the bottom.

Musical Minutes Fundraiser

Just a reminder to take some time out this week to complete your ‘musical minute’. Send a video or audio clip to myself via email either singing, dancing to music, playing an instrument or making music with items found around the home. Be creative!

If you have a child in another year group in Meadowside, get them involved, too. This is a school-wide fundraiser I have organised for all year groups.

I cannot wait to collate all our talents together whilst raising money for such an important charity (Supporting Older People – SOP).

The Powerpoint and Video explaining the fundraiser can be found on previous days of the blog.

Today’s Live Session

Today’s Live Zoom Subject: English

In our lesson today, we will begin by completing our handwriting practise.

We will then recap the end of ‘Stone Soup’. We will think about which characters are in this part of the book. We will recap what a ‘prop’ is and pick out some props from the beginning of the story. We will also consider how the characters are feeling at the end of the story and whether this has changed from the beginning of the story.

Early Bird Maths

We begin each day with ‘Early Bird Maths’. It is to support children in becoming more fluent with aspects of maths that we have learnt. Similar ideas are repeated so that children become familiar with the four basic calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division).

Please see below for answers to Monday’s Early Bird.

Maths

Please watch the pre-recorded lesson below. Afterwards, follow the instructions below and complete the worksheet(s).

Watch the video below entitled ”Draw pictograms (1-1) activity” via the below link. Listen to the narrator. He will ask you some questions, pause the video when asked and have a go yourself!

Before choosing a maths activity from the links below, think about how you feel about pictograms. Are you feeling green, orange or red?

I am feeling orange/red: This is okay! It just means you need a little more practise on pictograms. Have a go at the 2 star challenge. If you can do this and think you could try the 3 star then have a go at that, too!

I am feeling green: Great! I’m glad you feel that you understand pictograms. Have a go at the 3 star challenge! There is also an extra challenge you could try.

English

LO: To plan the end of the play script (Stone Soup)

Check out the live Zoom session at 11AM for today’s English.

The ebook is attached to help you.

Today, your job is to plan the end (scene 3) of ‘Stone Soup’. You can use what you learned on the live lesson to help you.

Think about what characters would be in scene 3 and how they are feeling.

Also. consider props that would be used if the book was turned into a play.

R.E. – Who is Jewish and what do they believe?

L.O. Children will learn what some of the words in a mezuzah mean.

L.O. Children will learn that Jewish people believe in one God.

L.O. Children will learn why a mezuzah is put on the doorposts of houses.

Watch the video below that tells you about Charlie. Charlie explains what is special to him, as well as what is inside a mezuzah.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p02mx8pg

If you would like to, you can read the Shema. The Shema is the prayer that is found inside a mezuzah. It has been translated (that means ‘turned’) into English.

‘Hear O Israel’ means ‘Attention!’ or ‘Listen up!’

Your task: Listen to some calming music. While you listen, think of something you believe. It may be about God. It may be about nature. It may be about how to behave.

E.g. I believe that everybody deserves respect.

Once you have thought about what you believe in, turn off the music.

Tell your belief to someone in your home by starting the same way as Jewish people show their belief in one God at the beginning of the Shema.

i.e. ‘Listen up!’ or ‘Attention!’

The first line of the Shema is telling people one of the most important beliefs in Judaism… the thought that there is one God.
